Prostate-Problems-from-an-Unlikely-Source

If you are an avid cyclist, you might want to take some extra precautions when you get on your bike. Sitting on a bicycle seat for prolonged periods of time has been shown to have an adverse effect on your sexual function, and can lead to prostate problems.

Dr. Pedram Ilbeigi is an Inland Empire urology expert who helps patients in Rancho Mirage and the surrounding area deal with prostate issues and other urological issues. He recommends that cyclists take extra precaution when enjoying their favorite sport, in order to avoid some of these prostate problems.

Prostate Problems from the Bicycle Seat

Penile numbness can be a result of sitting often on a bicycle seat. The prostate can easily be bruised because of the close contact it has with the bicycle seat when a man is seated. When the prostate is bruised, it might start to swell. The swelling that occurs can lead to penile numbness, which is more than likely alarming to any man. However, if a man notices that this is happening, he should simply take a break from bike riding for a week or two. The issue normally solves itself.

Impotency and fertility issues can arise if a person spends too much time on a bicycle seat. Impotency is defined as the inability to achieve or maintain an erection, which can be difficult if a man is suffering from numbness or another penile injury related to cycling. Infertility can be caused by frequent cycling because strenuous exercise reduces levels of testosterone, which is the male reproductive hormone.

Cyclists who are injured or experience an event that traumatizes the prostate might find that they have urinary complications after the incident. A bruised prostate can easily lead to urinary problems, due to swelling of the prostate. Sometimes a man will find that he has a difficult time urinating while another man might feel a burning sensation when he goes to the bathroom.

Dribbling, leaking and frequent urination also are common after a prostate injury. A man who is experiencing urinary issues as a result of frequent cycling should make an appointment with Dr. Pedram Ilbeigi to ensure that he does not have prostatitis. Typically male patients will need to take a course of antibiotics while also taking a break from cycling for several weeks to fix the issue.

It’s important to note that going on a bike ride with your family every once in a while will not automatically result in one or all of these complications. However, men who ride bikes on a regular basis should be careful to sit properly on their seat and protect themselves while they are cycling around town.
